Indian restaurant prices

That must surely be a typical 'meal', rather than a single dish in isolation?
A little while ago I posted how much I spend at the usual take away I go to and it shocked a few people. It is in the South East of England though.
Just checked again, most mains are £12 to £15. Starters around £7, add in a couple of naans (they're tiny) at £5 each and it quickly adds up!
ETA: Just checked one in Middlesbrough and that's still £5 start, £9 main and £5 naan (big one), feels reasonable to me but I'm sure appears extortionate to some!

When I am at home with Mrs BB our Curry order is between £20-£30 . If we both have a main it is close £40 and to be honest I never eat a full one so we usually share a main rice and starter. My problem is poppadoms.. My curry order could easily £40 on them lol
When I'm out for a curry can sometimes be £50 with a friend as there is sometimes less sharing or we share more. Also the price of a few beverages added in. Again, there is probably £10 worth of poppadoms between us.

Yeah it has gone up a bit recently generally but hopefully the businesses can still make enough profit to make it worthwhile trading without the price going up too much to make people actually eat out less. We average probably 2 meals out somewhere nice a month and maybe a lunch / sandwich and a couple of takeaways.

Problem is the restaurants are frightened to keep putting up prices as their costs keep rising and rising, a lot now are taking it on the chin and I suspect a lot will not survive.
Yes that’s exactly what will happen. Probably same with traditional chip shops. A few near us are now mini chain type ones. On average the amount we pay for food at our hotel have gone up by 20% since January, that is on top almost 10% increase last year.
Trying to find a good balance between not taking the perceived piss is challenging, cheap cuts are not cheap anymore.
We will be putting everything from breakfast to a pint of beer up 15% from next March.

Tonight 7 of us had a great meal at Dishoom, Covent Garden, London. We go as a group a couple of times a year I'd say, and got used to £40-ish a head. Not much alcohol, school night.
Tonight was £56 each, and a couple of people checked the bill, just to be sure there was no dishes added by mistake. It was accurate, the same dishes as normal, just more expensive than we have paid before.
Great place, great food, and there were queues outside for walk-ins (30 people in the cold). But when a group of comfortable Londoners have to do a double take, you know that restaurants may struggle after the Xmas season.

We had our first takeaway Indian since 2019 on the Isle of Wight three weeks ago. The restaurant was Cinnamon in Shanklin, very clean, very quiet, but the food was superb. Two main courses, meat biryani (with veg curry) and chicken dansak, plus saag aloo, keema naan and poppadoms - £24
Had enough leftover for my dinner a day later when I got home.

That is crazy pricing, more expensive than a Michelin starred restaurant in France we went to back in September.Tonight was £56 each, and a couple of people checked the bill, just to be sure there was no dishes added by mistake. I am struggling to see how much food you ate for £56 each, because this is their menu and I think I would be eating around £25 at the most.
