Hi all,

Mrs mentioned she would love to try some proper caviar during a conversation last night and I thought I would buy her some for christmas. However I know nothing about caviar lol

I imagine there are many different types and vendors and so need to know what the different types and best manufacturers.

I would like some form of testing pack where all the different types are included, if possible.

Anyone shed some light and point me into the right direction ?

Replace the caviar with chocolate and you can save the hassle of pretending it tastes good.

Hope she likes it for that price !

If she doesn't then if you have a cat it will be _very_ happy!

And the ethics issue, in these modern society really sad people want to eat things like this. Their choice really but still sad.

I didn't even want any caviar, however after reading your post i'm feeling the need to buy some. It's been a while, and as i'm going to be making a mockery of your ethics sensitivity there will be a totally new enjoyment brought to the experience - thankyou.

Might get some foie gras to follow scratchchin

Just called education, not sure how boasting about it impacts me, I don't really care if you choose to live a life like that. Some people don't want to change that's fine.
Just very odd considering how ethics is playing a part in everyone's lives nowadays and how me eat with so many options out there as well, that don't mean harming the animal whilst alive.

If people want to eat caviar there are various fish farms now producing it, there is even a UK one. Wild caviar really isn't something people should be eating.

Not sure how farmed is any better in taste or ethics.

I won't eat crustaceans, octopuses or squid due to the fact they have great intelligence, something I only learnt recently. Not sure how being ignorant of something is a badge of honour but hey ho it makes great 'grams.

I think if we educated ourselves in what we eat we would enjoy foods much more, my personal thoughts won't be demonstrating.

Farmed is far better than wild as there are hardly any wild sturgeon left in Europe and Asia. However, 'is farmed ethical?' is probably the topic for another thread, I think it all depends on what food/animal we are talking about. I'm also aware of the intelligence of some of the creatures people eat. I think a lot of people are oblivious of many facts regarding what they eat, which is a shame.

If you want to try something very very similar to caviar try the Waitrose Lumpfish caviar. If you like that you're heading in the right direction to spend on caviar. £2.50.

I hope golfgit hasn’t seen your post, they’ll be furious.

But if they have seen it, what’s the difference between that and eating eggs?

Oh, and I agree, lumpfish caviar is just as good and far cheaper. That, cream cheese and blini’s will be the starter.

This Spanish one seems to be doing well. Gordon Ramsey is his usual swearly self.

Seems the people getting furious are the ones that do it, odly thinking it impacts me. As I've already said I'm not here to force people to change, just maybe educate themselves better or question what they eat. No forcing, no upsetness on my part. It is just like people wouldn't buy clothes from sweat shops,(maybe some posters do) ethics takes time for people to understand how little steps can lead to bigger changes.

I wouldn't eat foie gras, caviar, ortolan etc, i'm not disgusted that people do, we are all different. Like people eat cats and dogs.
