Hi Guys,
I’m looking for a recommendation for a pan. It needs to be large enough for a family meal, should be able to be heated on a gas hob, also used in the oven and finally, have a lid. Handles on the side would be a nice addition, but not essential. Has anyone got any personal recommendations or ideas? Preferably not too expensive, but will be prepared to pay for a good, quality pan.
Thanks for all constructive responses.

Cast iron?
Do you want shallow or deep?

Lots of 'fake' le cruset lookalikes available for a sensible price.

Some type of enamel / cast sounds like what you want.

A shallow enamel cast pan would probably tick most of what you want. Pro-cook around middle range price wise.

Iron pans are very heavy. And I don't especially like cooking with them (we have a bunch of Le Creuset ones that only very rarely get used).

We bought some Circulon ones last year. So far so good - decent weight, good non-stick, can go in the oven etc.

ProCook have got quite a few options in their clearance sale at the moment. Tempted to pick up a triply one myself as I bought a few of these a while back and they seem to be holding up quite well.

eta: couldn;t resist, 28cm saute with lid for £63 "down from" £199 rolleyes

Still worth £60+ to me.

I like SKK nice and thick but not as heavy as the cast iron jobs and the non stick lasts longer than then the le creuset I’ve had.

Been looking at these SOLIDTEKNICS ones of late though. Might treat myself to one for Christmas.

Can’t see the attraction in cast iron pans, just too heavy.

Got the linked set about 2 years ago, super pleased

I had a fantastic ProCook pan, bought a number of years ago. Great weight, heated up quickly and evenly (halogen hob), great non-stick.

So I bought another a little while later as wanted a slightly smaller version of the same, and it was rubbish. Took ages to heat up, didn't do so easily and the non-stick was crap.

It's what prompted me to look for an alternative, hence trying the Circulons (they are similar to the original ProCook, thus far. I still have the original ProCook....non-stick's gone now, but it's still a very useable pan).

Yep, Jury is out until proven otherwise but I will attempt to treat this with a little respect. I do tend to destroy pans irrispective of cost, make etc etc Normally I just buy trade pans in lots of 4 or more when on special but I need an alternative to my lidded cast iron jobbie and for what it costs I'll give it a whiz.
