Quintessentially British food & snacks

My American friend is going back to the US after a stay in Blighty. I want to send him off with a few bits which you can really only get here.

What snacks and foodstuffs would you say are quintessentially British? Must be easy to transport and ideally not need refrigeration. I’m starting the list with Branston Pickle and Marmite.

Remember, chains like tend to Kroger stock British snacks, so stuff like digestive biscuits, Worcestershire sauce, marmite, Bisto, Colmans and tea are actually quite accessible to people in the US.

They don't get our selection of chocolates though, they are always a big hit. Maoam goes down well from experience.

I recently sent a parcel to a friend that had Jaffa Cakes, Cadbury's Fingers, Matchmakers and Galaxy Caramel, all of which seem very popluar.

I know they eat them in Aus but I would say mushy peas are a candidate.

Some great suggestions so far, thanks! I'm definitely thinking some biscuits - Jammie Dodgers, Hob Nobs, Digestives etc are a winner, HP sauce a good call. Know these things can be bought in the US if you look hard enough, idea is to go back with a bit of a goody bag.

Not so convinced with a jar of mincemeat, he wouldn't know what to do with it (although could point him to some recipes). Could be tricky at customs too particularly if it contains suet.

Jacobs cheesy footballs. A bit rare outside of xmas time though.
