Always the same for me when abroad, the food I miss the most when overseas, even if back home I don't have them all the time..

An English Chinese takeaway
Bacon sandwich
Big glass of cold milk to drink
Beans on toast
Cadburys dairy milk

(not necessarily all at the same time)

I don’t think I’m ever away for long enough to really ‘miss’ anything.

I can survive without a takeaway for 2 weeks, for example.

But I look forward to proper vegetables when I get home - probably due to eating out more on holiday than anything else.

I used to miss cider and bitter, because I'd get fed up of drinking lager all the time.

But now you can get cider and bitter and I drink much more lager anyway. So I'm OK.

That's the wife's issue, usually the milk is that awful UHT stuff too. I remember in Thailand, the wife ordered a tea, a pot and cup arrived, with the waitress immediately pouring it out, what came out was water with the mildest tinge of brown to it; so weak, I wanted to let the waitress know about the etiquette of English tea, ie just leave the pot on the table, for it to steep and then the customer pours their own, the wife told me not to as she thought it rude!

I miss bacon and decent sausages (not that I eat them copiously at home, I don't, I just occasionaly like a decent full English when away), however normally I'd do my best to eat what they eat, but as that screws with my normal diet, I can't wait to get back home to get back to my normal routine of lunch time salads, fruit and less food in general lol!

I'm spending a lot of time in Saudi at the moment and more than a beer I miss a bacon sandwich.

I retired and moved to Spain 4 years ago. I love the local food, plus I’m a reasonable cook and make pretty good Asian and Italian food.

There were, however, quite a lot of food items I missed when I initially moved here… until I found ‘Overseas’, a British supermarket… instant access to Branston pickle, pickled onions, English cheeses, proper back bacon, cadburys chocolate, biscuits, crisps etc etc etc… they even stock stuff like mr Kipling cakes and frozen ready meals if you’re into that sort of thing.

Shortly afterwards I found a British butcher who (ata price!) does proper joints of meat for a Sunday roast (not common in Spain).

However, I’ve still yet to find a decent Chinese take away… decent Indian food is everywhere, but the Chinese food is mostly a bland version of Cantonese… no Szechuan or Hunan. Also miss a proper dirty donner kebab… plenty of kebab places, most of them very dirty, but they are typically chicken or some tasteless lamb that’s nothing like I’d get back in the Uk.

Also miss access to the global wine market… I like Rioja and Riberro, but it can get a bit boring after a while. Unfortunately, anything non Spanish is either cheap rubbish, or horrendously expensive. I’ve had to learn about the less well known regional Spanish wines for variety.

One of the reasons we love to travel overseas is to experience things that are different, so don't really miss any of the food from home. Having said that, it's always a challenge to make a really good cuppa anywhere other than Blighty.

Northing.

I prefer to try the local cuisine of the places I visit and always find it very good. I don't miss UK food really. South African, on the other hand, I do miss, hence a regular purchase from the UK SA shops every month.

I spend time in Germany. Most things can be found if one wants that English flavour, however the following are borderline impossible:

Proper bacon
Soft sliced white bread
A decent curry
Fish and chips

But considering all the other great food around the place I can wait until a UK visit.

Boiling not tepid water to make tea infuse properly. Made a mistake in Portugal years ago, cha con leite faz favor - teabag floating in warm milk. Was truly horrid. Otherwise, English bacon, sausages and English mustard

We go to Portugal a fair bit, I love the local food and don’t really miss any food from home but you can’t get decent sausages!

Crumpets ....

I'm yet to find them abroad - and yet when my friends visit from abroad, they can't get enough of them.

Your post made me think of the old ambassador's reception Ferrero Rocher advert, only the waiter is carrying a huge tray piled up with buttered crumpets.

Eccellente.

Depends where you go I suppose. I live close to Germany, France and Belgium, and we're spoiled for sausage-choice.
