As per thread title. My brother turns 50 this year! December. So I have some time to plan. He’s not into posh bks fancy shmansy etc. but he has said he would like to go out for a meal for his bday.

I’m thinking. Well. I will be paying basically. And I love my bro to bits. And he’s turning 50! I’m not that far behind so understand perhaps the significance.

He lives suffolk way. Framlingham in fact. My mother, needham mkt. So I’m wondering as this place has never yet let me down, if there are any recommendations for a proper good meal out around these two places? Without shall we say, having to wear a suit?

We’ve done a few of the Deben inns in previous years for Xmas etc. but I’m thinking maybe something a little better than that. But. I dunno? My brother is not very accustomed to posh nosh. And I’m no millionaire. So what I guess I want is a brilliant. Maybe somewhat special meal out place for me to take my bro to which isn’t way way poncy. And won’t break my poorly bank.

Any recommendations around this area? Or should we just go the the deben inns fox?

Thanks in advance. For well. Anything really.

I like the attitude OP.

You sound like a good brother. Good luck on the suggestions.

Ravenwood Hall, Rougham, just off the A14.
Great food and wine, and quirky rooms

I had a nice meal at Seckford Hall (https://www.seckford.co.uk/) but it was a good 10 years ago. Maybe a little step up from the Deben Inns though (we go to the Maybush at Waldringfield, but it is just a decent pub).

I’ve heard The Unruly Pig just outside Woodbridge is good but have never been https://theunrulypig.co.uk/

Thanks for the recommendations. Will take a look at them. Maybe give spoons a swerve though. Like I said, I think he’d rather not have to dress up for the occasion.

Beautiful reply. Clearly you took it as my attempt at humour.

My folks live in nearby Woodbridge and rate Deben Inns (we go to the Coach in Melton and it’s reliable). I'd throw in the Unruly Pig, Turk's Head Hasketon or The Froize in Chillesford.

Thanks again. Yeah I wasn’t trying to bad mouth the deben inns. As you say. They are very good. The Fox in my experience is very good indeed. Just that we’ve been to most of them already and wondering about somewhere different. Couple of recommendations here for that there unruly pig. Am looking with interest.

Thanks again all.
