Monk Fish expires today, to eat or not to eat?
Discussion
I've just purchased some monk fish from Waitrose this evening that was reduced as it expires today. However, I can smell the 'fish smell' even though its in the packaging. I don't recall monk fish overly smelling before?
£9 reduced to £3, so i'm happy to bin it if the consensus on here is that I won't make morning if I eat it....

Call Waitrose. Tell them the fish they sold dated today smells bad. Ask them what time tomorrow they would like you to bring it back so they can smell it.£9 reduced to £3, so i'm happy to bin it if the consensus on here is that I won't make morning if I eat it....
They will give you a refund and a replacement.

Good shout, not sure how much I can be arsed to recover £3 but maybe the principle will get me interested. Its now in the freezer as it was smelling quite a lot and sticking it in the bin won't do much for the household 'aroma' over night...They will give you a refund and a replacement.

Personally I would get it out the packet and see how it smelt, there's a difference between a fishy smell and something that has gone off
The difficulty is that most don't know how to recognise the difference. Unless you're really confident in what you're eating, just don't eat it.
That said, a degree of fishy smell doesn't mean it's gone off but the OP doesn't know.
