Ooh yeahh, loved those when I was a student, didn't even know they were still available.

I loved watching the crispy noodles cooking and curling up in a pan of oil, stinking out the kitchen!!

In the 70s and early 80s that was most people’s introduction to Chinese and Indian food

It is one of those memories best left rose tinted, as I rediscovered a few years back.

Lol, yep I certainly won't be running out to get one, TBH they have probably faffed about with the recipe too to make it less unhealthy, thus making it taste worse!

That Chicken Supreme was fantastic and the Beef Risotto comes a close second.

I've managed to replicate both but there is nothing like the originals.

One of those things I've always fancied trying but never have and, just like Pot Noodles, I bet they are a pale imitation of what they were in the 80's now all the e-numbers and salt have been taken out.

^You could be right the soft noodles and Soylent green part was ok but the crispy noodles? They can FRO. I distinctly remember them in the 70s and 80s literally exploding in the frying pan, expanding into fluffy yellow strips of scrumptiousness, the size of Cheesy Wotsits they were: but now? A pale imitation, more chewy than fluffy, more dejection than delirium. Jack Reacher was right in his critique of them, ‘Never Go Back’.

I could murder a Fray Bentos pie after weeks of poncy food.

The fillings these days are shiite, but the pastry. Oh! The pastry! In all its delicious flaky layers of di-mono-hydrate fatty tri-glyceride glory... yum

Yep

How did you prepare these? Is the main element boil-in-the-bag, or was it something dried that you just added water to?

I do (vaguely) remember these in shops, but my parents never bought them. If it didn't have potatoes in, it wasn't appearing on the dinner table.

Me neither!
