I am meeting a friend for lunch in a few weeks in Chippenham - I have never been there.

Any recommendations for decent outdoor dining? Not looking for budget places - but a nice pub would work as well as a good restaurant.

I've obviously done the Google thing, but personal recommendations work better.

Thanks. smile

Not Chippenham central. Worth the short drive.

^ Agree with the above.

If you're willing to travel a mile or so, The Lansdowne arms at Derry Hill is nice too. Reasonably priced decent food and nice on a sunny day.

It's opposite the entrance to Bowood, which is a nice place for a walk if you've got time, and some good opportunities for a quick photo.

Castle Combe is a few miles Bristol way, and Lacock a few miles out towards Melksham. Both are famously lovely and have nice cafés if you wanted to sight see.

You’re better off out of town. As above, Lansdowne is nice as is the Pewsham, on the A4 at the bottom of the hill up to the Landdowne.

The Dumb Post is good, as is the Langley Tap. Or you could head a few minutes towards Bristol and go to The White Hart at Ford, or the Castle Inn at Castle Combe.

I genuinely couldn’t recommend anywhere in Chippenham town centre.

Very helpful - many thanks... I don't know the area at all, so it's really useful. smile

We're both driving and therefore not committed to meeting in the centre.

OK - I am booked into La Flambe... it looks absolutely perfect.

Many thanks, it didn't come up on my previous Googling, so PH has triumphed once again.

We’ve lived here 25 years and still haven’t tried La Flambe, really must correct that as it’s highly regarded.

If I remember, I will post a review! I am not there until mid-May.

I don’t go often enough. I hope you both enjoy.

If you carry on past the restaurant you can have a hoon up Lyneham Banks which used to look like this but has now reopened. Only about 30 seconds of bends but good fun.

Subsidence landslip. Not for the first time. Hopefully this repair (3 years in the making) holds!

Had our lunch there yesterday - it was excellent... thanks again for the recommendation. I wouldn't have found it without your post and it was the perfect halfway spot between me and the friend I was meeting.

We went last night thanks to the original recommendation as well. Fab food, thanks all!
