I posted a couple of years ago when some hotels started adding service charges to their accommodation rates:-

Here’s another sneaky addition this time by a restaurant:-

I went to a Jamie’s Italian once, with my mum & sister.
The food was average at best, but it’s a shopping centre restaurant so it’s not going to be great.
I mentioned that my mum was always a huge fan of Jamie’s and the waitress said oh he is here now would you like me to see if he can pop out and say hi…

£120 on the bill.

The thing that surprised me most in that article was "£4 for bread for the table". Do tables get hungry?

I've heard similar stories before so it sounds plausible.

Maybe but there’s no requirement to pay it unless the price was approved in advance.

100% true. Just spoke to my mum and she says it was £55 charged.

My mum said the food was lovely to his face then moaned about it not being nice when we left lol.

Morally that's the same as prostitution; hiring yourself out for the gratification of another person.

Singer, comedian, artist, hairdresser. The list goes on and on. We had a childrens entertainer last weekend, she was exactly like a prostitute. Identical

Im taking this with a pinch of salt. Would love to see the bill i.e. what was put next to the amount as a description of the charge.

i went to Salt Bae in Dubai and to have the geezer come out and sprinkle salt on your steak goes on the bill as an extra.

My thoughts also. It’s a bit like those claiming to have been nicked for 1mph over the limit. Nobody’s ever provided proof.

Why the f**k anyone would willingly pay to eat at one of his restaurants is beyond me. Mind you, I can imagine that it would popular, with the type of totally crass people, who like to visit Dubai in the first place.

We’ve stopped in Dubai a couple of times before joining a ship through the Suez Canal. It’s ok for a day or 2 but I wouldn’t choose it as my holiday destination.
