Sunday Lunch South Kensington

Mrs CofB and I are going to the Royal Albert Hall for a prom in early August.

Unusually it's a Sunday morning so we may stay for lunch afterwards.

Can I ask for Sunday lunch recommendations in the South Kensington area, or within walking distance of the RAH?

Sal e Pepe is a decent Italian - 20 minute walk from RAH.

Scarsdale Tavern does decent food and is a nice spot this time of year, floral decorations on the exterior will be looking great.

The Enterprise is a bit more refined, but not stuffy. Good food and setting at not horrible prices (for london!)

Yes - I'm starting to get the drift - we don't "do" London very often...

Gazette is a pretty authentic French bistro, great steak frites and moules etc, decent wine list and good value. It's actually inside the Institut Francais in S Ken just to cement its gallic credentials.

Sak e Pepe as noted by a previous poster is also a good shout.

There aren't as many decent places to eat round there as there should be, but both of these are solid.

A bit further away but The Windmill in Mayfair does excellent pies that are actually cooked on site. They have a good selection of beers that are kept well. You'll probably have to book. The area has Londons fanciest shops if you like that sort of thing.

Da Mario on Gloucester Road/Queens Gate Terrace is an excellent ‘proper’ Italian. 5 mins walk from the RAH. Reservation essential.

I stayed in this area earlier this year and had a meal at an Italian restaurant that I really enjoyed. I thought that it might have been at Sale e Pepe that two other posters recommended, as when I looked it up, it was in the right area. However, after looking at my photos it didn't quite match. After looking at my Google maps timeline it was actually a restaurant called Osteria Romana. Quite a low key restaurant, but felt authentic. I had a steak tartare and cacio e pepe and they were both very tasty and also had a really nice glass of red wine.

Agreed, been there a number of times prior to evening proms. I actually opened this thread up to post the same.
