A couple of years ago I won a pool competition with a prize of an all inclusive VIP trip to Tennassee supplied by Jack Daniels. Part of the trip was to select a single Barrel that the Elbow Rooms were to sell in the bars and also to recieve a bottle for myself.

Now, I don't like the stuff (ironic considering I had as much for free as I could possibly want over there and all I could stomach was 'Lynchburg lemonade') but after my girlfriends Father has just completed a load of building work for free I was thinking about giving it to him. Problem is that he only drinks Single Malt Whiskey's and I have no idea if he will like Bourbon (Is there a difference or is just what the Yanks call it? I know one difference is that they buy the used barrels from Scottish Whiskey producers)

Is it likely that a Scotch (Or Irish, cant remember what he has) drinker would drink Bourbon. Whiskey drinkers are a funny sort, almost Patriotic with the drink of choice!

Proper Scotch drinkers would rightly view it as filth.

Jack Daniels, however posh they want to make it, is a mixer for coke and little else.

Oh I dunno, Gentlemen Jack is so different to normal JD you could be mistaken that it's not from the same US based rubbish. No idea what the single barrel is like - could try it for you?! wink

scratchchin I remember Gentleman Jack being mentioned at the factory. Anyway, I have no bottle of Single Malt and this bottle holds special memories for me (I think as I can't remember the trip drunk ) so I think a Christmas day opening would be quite a nice thing.

I'd drink it (unless the sentimental attachemnt is too high)

I find it difficult (& ruddy expensive) to find in the UK, but when I nipped over to France the big hypermarket I went to in Calais (Mamout IIRC) had it for the Euro equivalent of less than £20. Result wink

I enjoy Jack and coke, but some Jack Daniels Silver Select (single Barrel) on the rocks is sublime!

Your normal Wild Turkey is much nicer / smoother than JD (imo) but if you can find it try Wild Turkey "Rare Breed" bow
