Will be going to NYC next year with the Dollar so cheap, can anybody recommend a great place to eat in Manhattan without breaking the bank. Bit of a catch 22 I understand, but humour me - all considered! smile

Thanks

Are you going with your other half? If not (or if she likes that sort of thing...mine did! thumbup) go to the hawaiian tropic zone just off of times square, aside from the fact all the women serving are in bikinis, the food is really really good!

Oh and if you do go, enjoy the Beauty pageant! wink

Also you could try Virgils which is a BBQ style restuarant just off of Times Square. The food is ok if you are into chicken, ribs, etc.. but the beer is superb there and the price is pretty resonable too.

I shall ask Cat where else we went and let you know. smile

I can't remember what the place is called but it's (or was) at the base of the Empire State Building. Serving American/Mexican food - huge platefuls and reasonably priced. I've been to NY twice and both times I went to the restaurant for our evening meal and then took the lift up the Empire State Building to view Manhatten by night - great view.

I usually end up at Del Frisco's every few trips. Amazing buzz in the place, full of NYC's beautiful people, the architecture's very interesting and the steaks are always the best (1221 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020, USA +1 212-997-9335) but you'll need to book.

. . . for steak you'll be hard pressed to beat Peter Lugers in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side - absolutely awesome trust me. Rated No.1 in NYC for donkeys years http://www.peterluger.com/biggrin

The cream they serve for dessert is superb isn't it? smile

I have been there twice now and although I am not a huge steak fan, they do some mighty fine steak! biggrin

They have been having a lot of trouble with their meat supply recently I believe, to the point of sometimes asking diners to try the fish. It's also all the way out in Brooklyn.

Maloney and Porcelli is as good, but in midtown.

We also had an excellent meal at the Union Square Cafe this summer, but whatever you do, make all your reservations a few weeks in advance, especially for Friday and Saturday nights.
