Christmas Turkey
Discussion
Some advice would be appreciated regarding what size turkey to get.
We will be having 7 guests for Christmas dinner, (so there will be 9 adults, 2 of which will be elderly and not eat as much as the younger folk,) and I was looking for some guidance on what size turkey to buy.
Last year we bought from a local butcher and just got the one he recommended, which was massive, was a squeeze to fit in the oven, and we wasted quite a bit.
This year we are going to buy directly from a local farm, but I don't know what size to go for.
Is there any kind of rule of thumb you can apply to sizing a bird, bearing in mind the turkey will not be staying with us into the new year. Any left overs will be in the bin on boxing day.
Any tips would be much appreciated.
