After trying (and failing) to mix things properly in a blender, I was thinking of getting a proper food processor. I could get a cheap one for around £40 like Kenwood or such, or there are the posh ones like Magimix for around £140.

Is it worth the extra for the posh ones? What does PH recommend?

I am currently looking at one of these...

The Magimix is pretty well thought-out. I've got the 'Mini', which is obviously smaller, and has the citrus press rather than the dough hook. The 'french fry slicer' (which unfortunately is another item to buy as it doesn't come with any of the kits) is a must have for slicing vegetables for stir fries.

However, you can get a machine which fulfils the same functions as the Magimix for a third of the price, and I'm not convinced that it would necessarily break any sooner.

Apart from quality, isnt the big draw for both Magimix and Kitchen aid the direct drive motor, no nasty rubber belts to stretch or snap.

Robot Coupe are good but the best rule to follow is buy the most powerful you can afford then you will have plenty "headroom"

I've got a Braun one from about 15 years ago and it still works great, I also have the small cusinart "chopper" which is good. If budget is not an issue then robot coupe or magimix I reckon.
