Being the romantic fella that I am I thought it would be nice to cook dinner for my wife this evening - So I've bought a whole lobster.

Now, how long do I need to boil it for and how do I tell when it is done?

Its about a foot long, including the claws.

Bung it in, and then, like an egg, take it out and see if it dries quickly

I may have a slight issue with not having a large enough saucepan. I assume it'd cook just as well in a large roasting tin filled with water over 2 burners on the hob? (As long as the lobster is fully submerged and the water keeps boiling.)
