Saw frozen chips in batter (Mccain, I think) in the supermarket, not something I've seen before.
Sounds rather unpleasant. Are these some sort of regional delicacy like deep fried crunchies? Do they taste as bad as they sound?
I see you are in Cumbria, not too far from the border. This is not just food, it is North Britain food.Sounds rather unpleasant. Are these some sort of regional delicacy like deep fried crunchies? Do they taste as bad as they sound?

If you mean their Beer Battered Chips, then you made a big mistake not picking them up......
They are hard to find, but seem to be making it into more Supermarkets, great with a nice chunky steak.
+1 They are awesome with a juicy steak They are hard to find, but seem to be making it into more Supermarkets, great with a nice chunky steak.

Prefer making wedges at home generally, but just once in a while fancy oven chips.
Mmmm, chips in batter, not as pikey as you might think !
A family tradition (from the Yorkshire branch) is that of collops, deep friend potato discs in batter. They go really really well with cold meats. And boxing day turkey and collops is great.
And it isn't that much of a step to tempura potato. I did last Christmas' collops in tempura batter, which worked very well.

Nope, I meant what I wrote ! Although no doubt collop is a contraction of scalloped. It is a real word !
