i know my first post should be about my car and about how i love driving it etc with this being pistonheads however as the car isn't actually on the drive at the moment ill start with this. Its the Mrs welshys90's birthday in a month or two and I am looking for a restaurant near glasgow which is VERY good, exclusive, posh and of course romantic. I don't mind spending money so prices are not an option (even if the bills going to be silly e.g. £200/£300)

any help would be much appreciate

thanks guys biggrin

How near Glasgow?

If you and the Mrs live in Glasgow and could travel a bit further north...

I'd recommend the "Three Chimneys" on the Isle of Skye. If you can't stretch to the "House Over By" to stay in (££££) then there a goodly number of EXCELLENT B&Bs nearby that can sort you out with a taxi to and from the restaurant.

A set-menu three course meal cost me £52 a head last time I was there. But expect to double the bill by the time you've had drinks and wine. The Mrs and I did £200 on our tenth anniversary dinner there. Brilliant. It's also a superb area for touring, scenic and you can have a dram at the Talisker distillery.

I'm afraid near Glasgow I don't really have any recommendations - I always seem to drive straight through and up the A82 towards Fort William...

The Oyster Bar at Loch Fyne. Best seafood ever. Beautiful location. Not overly posh but certainly exclusive.

Would second The Witchery and the Loch Fyne Oyster bar and say, that in my experience The Ubiquitous Chip has always been great.

Also, the Lodge on the Loch at Luss is just a perfect setting - the food is very good indeed and the outlook over the loch is just superb and a romantic stroll around Luss afterwards is a must - only about half hour outside Glasgow on the A82.

Me too laugh

Can I add that you should only do this if you can afford it and if she's going to be happy with the spends...I've seen this backfire quite badly when the hubby spent shedloads of money that the couple didn't have an an expensive meal when his wife was worried about how to pay for the shopping each week. You don't have to spend a fortune to have a fantastic time.

As above, you don't have to spend the earth to have a good meal.
Maybe I'm not as couth or cultured as some of you who will happily spend £200 on a meal for two (not in a million years would I spend that much..) but I can name many brilliant pubs and restaurants tucked away down my way where two can dine with drinks for less than £50.

well last time we had a lovely meal in Di Maggios which i would recommend however their choice in wine/champagne isn't to the missus' liking and the fact she's vegetarian there is surprisingly not alot on offer in there. I had a look at two places called stereo and mono however she didn't fancy it as i would be left without a good ole' steak(caring girlfriend, what i like to see smile) i may just cook a fantabulous meal and that would be easier then we all get what we want smile

Budget is a fair bit lower, but for location this place is great!

If you can get a decent evening then it'll be hard to beat sitting at the foot of Loch Lomond with the sun setting over the hills to your left.

Also not too far for the train back into town so you can both enjoy a drink...
