Michelin Star Restaurants - Berkshire
Discussion
Yes, I know of the Fat Duck and Waterside Inn in Bray, but want to try something a bit different. Been to both, they were fantastic...
Basically, I love food and I'm taking the Mrs out for our Anniversary and thought I'd treat her to something a bit special.
I was looking for some suggestions in the Berkshire/Surrey area really, thought you guys might know? I can't be arsed to go to London as that means I need to drive, which means no drinks for me!
I was looking at the Cliveden or Taplow House as they are close by.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

L'ortalan just outside Reading is nice but I found it a little 'formal'. I think my girlfriend and I halved the average age in the dining room when we went!
Otherwise JSW in Petersfield is fantastic. Not actually in Berkshire or Surrey but the food is always excellent, the service is great but very friendly and relaxed and the place just has a really nice feel to it. Definitely worth the trip.
I've heard very good things about the Vineyard at Stockcross as well but never actually been myself. To be honest, you probably can't go too far wrong with most Michelin starred places, just depends how formal/relaxed you want it to be.
Good luck!

Cheers guys, I went to L'Ortolan in the end.
Simply fantastic, food was brilliant, service was very good and the atmoshere was nice and relaxed as well. I share your comments about how formal the occasion was - I wanted it to be fairly relaxed so we could just enjoy ourselves. I managed (after some wheeling and dealing) to get a seat at the Chef's Table, so it was good entertainment too!
Highly recommend it.
I liked the look of Taplow House too, reasonable price, nice menu, nice location, so went there after work last week too. Very good, would recommend it too!
Now I'm a little fatty and need to hit the gym...
