On another thread one of you guy's reckoned Wright Bros in SE1 was the place for oysters. Being partial to a oyster now and then, I had a look at the web site and saw thier mail order service.

25 fantastic, massive oysters for around £25. They come in thier own cool box, packed with ice and a couple of lemons thrown in. Delivered on the day of your choice.

Sorry if it sounds like a add, but i thought it was just too good to keep to myself,

John,

you still in Singapore? Enjoying the local food? Hoping to make it over next summer for a cousin's wedding. Can't wait, the mouth is already salivating at the thought.

One thing I haven't managed to acquire the taste of, is durian though!

your not a converted eater then! My wife and the in-laws keep on telling me how good it is, but I don't quite see the fascination though!

I will let you know if we make it (depends on tying it up with a business trip through to NZ).

Last time was 07 so already been a year ... shocking.

Ahh you have one of them too??? Chinese, Peranican or Malay??

Yes even her family's dog drools for durian ... i just drop her off and leave when they are feasting!!!! And if i have to carry durian for her, its tied to the whale tail at the back of the car!!

You get great Oysters here though, a mate of mine has an Oyster Farm on Phuket where he cultivates 4 different varieties (i think he gets the spat from New Zeeland) but always have a great feast when there!!!

very good John! The FIL is Peranican and the MIL Chinese, but the wife was born in London, BIL born back in Singapore (Glen Eagles) and the SIL back in London. They got PR are are now full Brits, but love visiting back.

The Grand-parents (Peranican) are back in Singapore, with 15 Auntie & Uncle's and about 35 cousins ...

It looks like we might be over in the summer, staying in Merryn Road of Whiteley if you know it (close to Raffles Town Club).

Where are you living?

Mine is Singapore Chinese, so 3rd Generation but still has a healthy tribe here, seems that the whole vilage miust have moved here circa 1903

Yea i know where you mean. I live out in the sticks (in so far as you can in Singapore), in Changi, the most unique village in the world!!

The only village with, an international airport and ferry terminal, a marines base, a prison, golf course, sailing club, beach club, armed forces club, a 5 star hotel, 12 bars, 24 hour food and many restaurants, a chapple, buddhist and hindu temples, and a museum, but no petrol station or post office!!

Changi ... now there is great food to be had there!

We normally stay at the beach club when we are over as the in-laws are distant members, so the fees make it worthwhile staying. There were 35 of us staying there last time, and it was really good. Nice boardwalk walk to the village from the club, good for working off all the food!

I did always like the biryani from the hawker there.

CBC has good facilities ... the swimming pool smile and had some nice drinks on the balcony on the bar.

To be honest, it was quite a while since I ate there (2007) but I remember that it was on the far right of the hawker stalls when we walked in from CBC. You can imagine the sight can't you, about 20 white people descending on the hawker stalls ... it made for quite a sight, especially the blond girls we had with us!

It is looking more and more promising with the trip in the summer, so will keep you posted. I will leave the wife there with the little 'un then fly down to Australia for business, then back again. Should be able to get best part of a week either side of the trip so really looking forward to it, especially if we can chill at CBC for one of those periods.

You been to Pilau Ubin? We went in '03, a real culture shock, but quite interesting. The braver ones hired some bikes, and rode up to the Buddhist temple, then poured down with rain! The food though was awesome ... the best seafood hor fun had anywhere!

to be honest, you didn't stand out that much in changi, the Offshore and Aviation industry has ensured loads of ang mohs of both sexes are a regular there for many decades!!!

You will however stand out in the beach club as its an incredibly "old school" chinese establishment that realy does frown on us whities in there!!!!

Been to Ubin many times, a few mates of mine are partners in fish farms over there, we regularly have parties on them biggrin great for BBQ snapper lick

ang mohs ... but I don't have red hair!

I don't know CBC coped with 30 of us at one time. It was off peak so at least it was quite quiet.
