Those weasely French have got it in for you. 
It wasn't legal to make it here for quite a time for that very reason! Some ancient English law about fat content to make the bread last longer, so supermarkets had to import the dough. I presume the EU has changed all that.
Great stuff when it's fresh, though, and the part baked stuff does keep well.

Well I don\'t have one of those I have Tescos and I aint going there every day. I quite like the bread as well if only they would put some additives into it to make it last.
