Following on from the wine thread, I want a bottle of port for Christmas but don't know what is good. Neither do my family.

10PS - please don't post Folkstone.

FFS. Recommend me a good strong red wine type alcoholic drink which sounds like a place that ships come and go from.

Warre's Otima is a rather nice tawny... don't be put off by the small bottle! (just buy two...)

how much are you looking to spend?

Lots of different ports out there. You need to choose one to match the circumstances in which it will be drunk.

I got a bottle of Ware's 1966 port which I will probably be trying to turn into gout this Christmas - any good?

Warre's 66 is good for drinking now and many of the 66's have been on a par with the paradox that was 63'. Alternatively, you could easily keep it for another 10 years (at which point some might view it as still being too young to drink).

Properly cellared and decanted, you should be in for a treat.
