We are going to Prague over the weekend and wonder whether somebody has suggestions regarding fine dining there.
Ideally either a modern approach to classical bohemian cusine or some modern european kitchen
Thanks

In central Prague, U Pinkasu for hearty Czech food at a fair price. It is in the guide books, but even my mates who are locals go there.

Kampa Park by the Charles Bridge is (or was) considered the best fine dining restaurant in Prague. It's hosted the likes of the Clintons.

I've dined there and it was very decent, but if you're used to Michelin star dining in the UK (not that I am particularly, or at least that regularly), don't expect to be completely bowled over.

Another top restaurant is meant to be Flambee, but I couldn't get a table there last time I was in Prague.

I went to Flambee on the 7th December last year....

I wouldn't go back. Very expensive, and much smaller than I imagined. It made my other half feel rather uncomfortable.

Plus a bottle of water was 390 koruny, which is about £13.50.

(our simple meal, with a kir royal each was £160!)

Here is a short Czech based guide on restaurants:
http://www.marys.cz/prague_guide/restaurants/

You are going to like Czech cuisine, or you won't. Typically it is simple and hearty. They like meat, and you can get lots of game dishes (probably more so in the countryside). Most of the chefs get taught at the same cooking school, so a dish from a decent local pub will be not much different from eating the same thing at the Hilton, except you will pay x5 more (from one of my jolly fat Czech/Aussie mates).

If you like Steak Tartare, it is one place to get it - I have it at least once during each visit smile

went 2 years ago, food was amazing and the setting makes for a great romantic night. only 'problem' was that it was pretty dead when we went - 8 ish midweek - and i'm not a fan of empty restaurants.

I love that modern approach to classical bohemian cuisine type food I do.

Especially with chips.

We had a good meal in The Blue Boot, just over the Charles bridge into the old town, on the right before Malostranske Square (where there are some decent bierkeller type places).

The Pendulum wasn't bad, either over the road and round the corner from Rocky O'Reillys.

FFS, watch out for dodgy and fake cabs. I got taken for a rather scary ride and was relieved of £100 because i was naive about them!

Yes we had snow- very cold and romantic and the chrismas market was a dream (lost of ham and tredlnik there as well)...
We did (luckily) not get ripped off by cabs as we had booked ours in advance over the net and inside town we walked a lot
Now food wise
We enjoyed Zvonice a lot, both great game fans so had lovely meal, was very full Saturday night (good that we had booked through hotel)
Had some food in the beer houses which was as described with overcooked cabbage
Unexpected highlight was Cafe' Slavia which not only reminded me very much of a typical Viennese Coffee House but also sampled sweet and savoury food there, which was all well prepared, made in house and a great value for money- also nice local wines
Tretters in the old town is one of the best Coctail Bars I have been recently (it is a delight to see trained barmen at work, not your average student here who has to look up drinks recepies) Full marks and super atmosphere
Delightful trip thumbup

I've not been back to Prague since 2002 but we had a superb meal at Pravda.

It is next to the Louis Vuitton store on the main shopping street.

Very nice
