Allergy to fizzy drinks??

Does anybody else here suffer an exremely bad intolerence to fizzy or gassed drinks.
I cannot drink any sweet fizzy drinks, most Uk bottled lagers, champagne , draught lagers, coke, lemonade etc. after a few minutes I am badly sick!! Not nice.
I can however drink , soda water , bottled or draught , some french bottled beers or draught in France, tonic water , guinness,and most real ales!!!

Been to the Docs , told ` dont drink them then` no help.

I think it may be the Sulphur Dioxide , or something similar . its very odd and Im wondering if anybody else here knows anyhting as there is nothing on the interweb.

Hmmm I'd suggest you've got a number of intolerances not just one. Sulphur is hugely likely and if you google wine and Sulphites you should come up with lots of (mainly American) info. I can't see that you can lump all of those things together as "fizzy drinks" as you can't compare champagne to coke in terms of it's construction.

I'm intolerant to corn which means I can't drink any fizzy soft drinks, coke etc. (glucose is usually corn derivative). I do drink Stella but that has corn in it and can provoke a reaction if I have too much. Dark beers like the Leffe brun and Leffe Christmas beer are usually OK, as a rule the more processed the corn is the more I'll react to it.

I dislike red wine so don't drink it but will drink white wine but it often triggers an almighty migraine so I've pretty well given up drinking it. I think it's the sulphites. I also react to dried fruit unless it's either organic or the sulphur coating is washed off.

I can though drink Champagne (in large quantities!) with no ill effects at all, AFAIK Champagne will have lower levels of sulphites in it because fermentation isn't stopped in the same way as it is with normal wine (happy to be corrected).

Yes its very odd this intolerance thing. I can drink all wine red or white with no problem , tbh life would be a dull place if I couldnt!
Its the gas that gets me sometimes in 3-4 minutes, so for around 10 years or so now I dont touch it. But I can in France drink a few of their draught beers with no big problem. I think its the way the drinks are gassed as I have heard in Uk some places have to gas differently for draught beers depending on where the cellar is. How far they need to pump type of thing. I have had Guiness that has been very gassy and caused a reaction like lager.
I had some Leffe myself last year and it wasnt too much of a problem, although I dont risk it if Im out anymore as the effects are too embarrasing:-(

Wines usually have sulphite added to kill off the yeast and to act as a preservative.
Champagnes (and cavas) will have less in, but proper 'fermented in the bottle' champagne is fermented to dryness, so doesn't need any.

Some beers have E150 (caramel) in them that bloats up the beer belly (more than beer normally does)
Maybe you have a reaction to one of the ingredients?
