We are staying at some hotel in Walsall pre PH show, would I be correct in saying that there is a half decent restaurant in/near Walsall?

Or is the best I can hope for burger and fries?

Not fussy about what food, thought we might be best with something indian bearing in mind the location.

Walsall is a dump. Are you up for getting a taxi? Which hotel?

The "Park Inn". It was a freebie otherwise I would avoid like the plague (sp).

You're staying in Walsall for a show at the NEC? Can't be a lot closer to the venue than your home....

Its only 19 miles up the M6 from the NEC according to google maps, and my OH is insistent about using the prize she won in a raffle at work of the "executive suite". We live in Herts, but she also views it as a chance to get away from the kids for a night.

Personally I would rather sleep in my own coffin than in the "Park Hotel" in Walsall, but the reviews don't seem too bad. I think she is going to be disappointed with Walsall though, I think she thinks its an exotic location.

Dormer Cottage...

Looking at the pics, at first, I thought you were digging a lake!

Walsall is pretty much as grim as life gets in the UK. I certainly wouldn't recommend any romantic evening walks!

N.B. It may only be 19 miles, but they are the longest 19 miles in the world. Regularly a couple of hours worth!

It's the wrong side of Walsall too! Sorry I can't help - I don't know the area. Perhaps take a cab into Brum?

Hotel looks ok, and that area of Walsall is not as bad as they are making out!

Eat at the Hotel? Or stop off on the way back?

If you are at the show, you won't get much time for much else (unless you hate the show!)

The traffic from there to the NEC won't be 'too' bad, on a weekend, Ikea doesn't have a sale on...

There is an Italian in the Old Town Hall in Walsall Town Centre. Food was quite good last time I went there (Landlords inspection!).

I wouldn't say it was a recommendation - rather a piece of local geography!

Sounds alright to me. We might be able to swing by Brum town centre on Friday night.

And as to my photos of Dormer Cottage (house I am building) its now gone from a hole in the ground about half the size of a footy pitch to this, but not without angst. Looking forward to the PH show now.
