Hi all. I have a couple of ideas for things to do with my fiancee on valentines day. I am not sure which of the ideas i am going to do yet. However they may mean that we have to have something to eat/a meal out before hand. Therefore could anybody give me any ideas of a reasonably priced place to eat in London, somewhere near Victoria train station and somewhere near the London Eye. It could serve English, Indian or Italian food. Any help would be much appreciated.

Near Waterloo..

Indian - Bangalore Express http://bangaloreexpress.co.uk/

Very modern indian. The more trad indian places near Waterloo are pretty ordinary, and full of drunk suited blokes (say Hi to me !)

English - hmm, there is the Anchor and Hope at the Southwark tube end of The Cut. Very good gastropub, but I can never work out if you can book or not. You can't on a weekday evening. Or Masterfry down Waterloo Road towards the Elephant. One of the best sit-down Chippies ! Before there is the Waterloo Bar and K'tchen which OK, the Fire Station does good food, but is pretty noisy. Opposite the Fire Station is the Waterloo Brasserie, which is a bit crap to be honest although it was on Masterchef the other day (and was empty) !

Or... Livebait on The Cut if you like fish. There is another modern place called The Quilted Goose or something, not been in so can't comment but looks popular.

Baltic is nice, for Eastern European !

Down towards the river there is Gabriel's Wharf. The pizza place there is good, Gourmet Pizza Co.

Festival Hall has lots of places to eat, but they change so regularly it is tricky to be specific. Canteen is a British comfort food type of place. There is an Italian, Strada. And a posh named-chef place.

Or the Oxo Tower !!!!!!!

I'm a big fan of the Tas chain of Turkish restaurants - lovely grilled meat and fish, flatbreads baked on the premises and zesty salads.

Not sure whether you would think it quite 'special' enough for Valentine's Day, but it is cheap (main dishes £9 - £11) and very good.

There's one on The Cut, SE1.
