Hey all,

I have been looking for spice grinder of the mechanical type, and if any of the PH foodies can suggest one? I have used electric coffee grinders, but find they bite the dust after a few years of regular use, and even the cheap ones are around £10 a pop (well they did, but can’t find any cheap ones on Currys/Comet/Agros websites anymore). I don't really want to spend money on a good coffee grinder, making it unusable for coffee thanks to curry spices!

Cheers smile

Not when the motors/bushes go and I have killed 2! Chinese made rubbish - they even put anti tamper torq screws on them to stop people pulling them apart (didn't stop me anyhow). A waste of time, since they are designed to eat themselves, and are not repairable!!!!

I just want something that is manual (I have a motar and pestle, but it is a pita for larger quantities of spices), and will last for a long time. A friend just suggested a Turkish one. Fed up shelling out another electric grinder that will just die.

Ive had a coffee grinder for spices for five years - the only thing that damages them as far as i can work out is trying to cut large, tough things like whole cinnamon sticks or whole nutmegs - just smash these things up a bit first with a cleaver and it should last you a good few years!

You can get a mechanical coffee grinder - which works much the same on spices.

PITA for grinding Bayleaves and Cinnamon sticks, but good for smaller stuff.

'Leccy ones are easier.
