I've got a 3 week long course in Derby coming up (lucky me!) and was wondering if there are (there should be!) any decent real ale pubs there.

I've heard tell of the Alexanda? which is meant to be good. They'll need to be within walking distance of my hotel (The European Inn which is I think just outside the station).

Cheers

is the european on burton road?

The Flowerpot is ok albeit a bit of a 'heavy rock' bar

'The Mile' on Ashbourne Road/Friargate has/had many real ale pubs which unfortunately a few have been hit by the CC but worth a walk - and it leads you into the centre.

The Brunswick about 50m to the right across the road from the station, is serious real ale territory.

I've never been in there and a)walked out unaided b) not lost half a stone the following morning wink

It's about 5 minutes walk from the European (that's the place opposite the Midland isn't it?).

It's too do with work the course, not a uni course!

Some good places to investigate, i'll have to have a look at them. A heavy rock bar, just up my street music

I think he guessed that, and also guessed at what industry you work in, to be doing a course in Derby and staying at the European...
