Hi all,
Being students, my friends and I enjoy a good number of bbqs every summer. Occasionaly we have one in the winter as well. Last year in my housemates and I even built ourselves a bbq out of the bricks from the garden wall that fell down. The next door neighbour wasnt particularly impressed, but the landlord loved it.
Recently one of the topics in the pub has been doing our own Spit Roast. We've done a bit of research, all eaten from them before, but cant seem to find anybody that we know that has done it themselves. Have any PHer's had a go? If so, how did you go about doing it, and what was the cost?
Cheers in advance, Sam

Nothing like a good spit roast. Saw one happening at a Gay wedding a few years ago. Looked like everyone involved was enjoying it.
The key is getting your meat tender without going overboard and putting your sauce on too early, and of course spearing it correctly with your rod. The main problem being the heat gets in where you have put your spit in and often burns your hole.
Good luck... you crazy students!

not done it myself but have helped out.... generally a good local butcher will be cheapest, but online look here:
£229

half £78
http://www.geralddavid.co.uk/sub_category.php?c_id...
piglet
http://www.formanandfield.com/the-butchers-pughs-p...
Easiest way is an old drum barrel cut in half for the BBQ...
Just as an added note:
Heston Blumenthal buys his pigs from Huntsham Farm, Ross-on-Wye, (huntsham.com), for just £125 (half a pig). Other animals such as sheep are even cheaper - a half sheep is £57.60 from the Rhug Estate Organic Farm (rhug.co.uk).
Sorry for the serious reply
