These are always a puzzle to me, they say 100% but then when I look at the contents they invariably say 99% plus black pepper and salt or even yeast etc. Maybe they mean all the meat is 100% beef rather than slipping in some pork or chicken or walrus. I still think it is a bit of a con though.

Anyhow, thought I would do myself a couple of quarter pounders tonight and on a whim bought some Birds Eye and Sainsbury's to see if own label would stand up to a branded item (pun intended). Pulled them out of the box and look at this

considering they are supposed to be all beef how come they look so different? What part of the cow I wonder. One of them looks too much like a Scotsman on holiday in Spain for my liking. Yes, that is the expensive Birds Eye one before you ask. Maybe it has some of the Captains rosy cheeks as part of the 100% British Beef. Aye Aye.

Both will have some way to go to match the Tesco Aberdeen Angus Finest burgers which are not bad at all for shop bought.Mind you I have not eaten them yet, they may both be fabulous.

Regards

Andy

Well slight differences in taste but to be honest I preferred the bottle of badger that went with them. They shrink to nothing as well. Filled a hole and were not unpleasant is a fair summary. Beef flavoured chewing gum.

you should go to sainsburys and in the deli counter bit (not the sliced meat the bacon/steak/fish/burgers bit)

and get some aberdeen angus burgers from there, they are really good, dont shrink and are minced beef squashed into a burger shape, or try there taste the difference venison burgers lick

or failing that, local butchers.

They also do a 100% rump steak burger(from the counter), they taste great and come off the griddle the same size as they went on

Make your own. It literally takes 5 minutes and they'll be 100% better than frozen ones.

It's the only way to be sure smile Add softened onions, chopped gerkins, some English mustard, some double cream for binding (egg gives a funny texture that I don't find agreeable) and plenty of salt and pepper. It needs to be 100% steak mince from a good butcher also.

Are you yet ready to embrace the love of making your own buns?

That way you can make 1lb burgers, without overhang as its difficult to find large format buns.
