the bread is the important thing.
from toasting on an open fire, to using a blow torch, grill, normal good ol' toaster or a hob, my toast always comes out the same, just right, cause I dont let it burn.
it doesnt matter so much as what you toast with, its what you toast that dictates the outcome in my books.

The perfect christmas turkey is a tad tricky
The perfect souffle can be quite problematic
Detailed and intricate sugar work and confectionary is difficult.
Toast, on the other hand, is a peice of piss.
Select nice bread - toast for the correct amount of time. Hey presto.
It can't be that difficult or it wouldn't be the snack of choice for stoners. You never hear "Duuuuude - i'm just going to grab some munchies - anyone else want me to make them a creme anglais filled choux pastry?"

It really isn't that hard is it. Just toast it until it is how you want it. Sometimes I like mine hot off the press, lightly toasted and dripping with butter. Sometimes I like it buttered when cold and covered in jam.
And the bread, definately the important factor, along with the butter/topping. Crap bread is crap toasted or untoasted. Do you ever remember enjoying the toast at a greasy spoon? Smartprice stale wafer thin bread covered in industrial marge...

Same idea as with wine - never toast something you'd not eat in a sandwich. Never cook with wine you'd not drink..
