Experiences here?

I have been to a few:
Gavroche, two.
Square, two.
Murano, one.

My favourite is the Square by far. Faultless service, they really make you fell special. If you are reasonable on wine, the bill can be kept close tot £200 for two which i find very good for the kind of experience you get.

Curious to hear about other experiences.

I'm off to Murano next month.

All one stars.
Claridges - Excellent stuff, beautiful venue cracking food.
Lindsay House - Took my wife to be just I got engaged. Quite drunk, excellent service and food (rich though) intimate venue.
Chez Bruce - Lovely place, great cheeseboard.
Boxwood Cafe - Good but not great (does this have a star not sure)

That's it for London for me.

gordon ramsey rhr is the next one on my list.

Boxwood cafe is not michelin starred. I thought it was rather bland and very expensive for what it was (knightsbridge)...

Am gonna try closmaggiore this week which is no michelin star but i hear good stuff.

The Square is my favourite, but I love the Gavroche (despite the decor). Maze is very good. Gordon Ramsay at RHR I have only been to once because it is such a PITA to get a booking (even through Centurion or Coutts). I thought Nahm ws OK, but not really Michelin * quality. I like Hakkasan, but I'm not sure it's up to Michelin * level. Benares most definitely is not. Foliage at the Mandarin is good. Does Locanda Locatelli have a * (it's overrated in any case)?

I'd recommend Arbutus. The first time I ate there it was the best meal I've eaten in London, basically flawless

I was disappointed with Lindsey House

Had a good birthday meal in Arbutus (1 star). Mackerel "burger" and saddle of rabbit/cottage pie were great! Service was good but I felt it was a bit cramped, but good atmosphere, and a good location in the middle of Soho for pre & post dinner drinks.

Milk & Honey is run by the same chef in Mayfair. They now have a star too I think, but haven't tried it yet.

You mean Wild Honey. Milk & Honey only really does bar snacks.

A mate of mine was sous chef there a couple of years ago before going to work at Per Se in New York. If you're interested, he's now opened a place of his own in Wiltshire which is well worth visiting if you're in the area and looking for a decent meal.

Dur, yes of course it's Wild Honey.

They'd have to do some really good pistachio nuts and cocktails for a michelin star! biggrin

not sure if some these still have their stars or not...

Pied A Terre - Excellent food, small, friendly
Nobu - Good food, but abit over priced, fun and lively, good for eating late(closes at 3am)
Hakkasan - Excellent food, supprisingly cheap
GR at Claridges - Touristy, lots of people having special occasions. Apparently they have hidden cameras in here to check up on peopels reactions to the food!
Marcus warings(formerly petrus) - Stuffy, not enough space between tables, excellent tasting menu
Zuma - Fantastic food one of my favoutites

Hibiscus have now moved to London from Ludlow. They're still two-starred and they were great when they were in Ludlow

I/We try to visit one excellent restaurant a month, money permitting. Thus far, Maze is hands-down my favourite. I still want to try Ramsey's, but booking is a mission. I don't think we've managed Marcus yet, either.

Happy to see that this thread is generating much interest... smile
Surprised as well in credit crunch times!

Threesixty, i am picking up on Zuma... I have been there once and hopfully it will be the last time. I cannot believe this is Michelin starred. Young blonde women at the bar, with very old men or men obviously paying for their service...
Food ultra expensive and frankly nothing better than the local sushi place.
Too little to eat.
Cramped seating.
Ultra expensive for what it is. Think £600 for 4 being ultra reasonable on alcohol.
I was still very hungry leaving the restaurant.
Noisy.
We were rushed to finish our meal to leave the table.
I go out a fair bit in London, but this was by far the worst experience ever.
It possibly is 'cool' but certainly not Michelin star worth imho.

Gavroche and Square definitly are!
