Nice bottle of red
Discussion
Dear All,
To celebrate the impending arrival of our firstborn I want to buy a rather special bottle of red for drinking now/next 12months.
I tend to only drink new world reds (ignorant I know) and I have little knowledge of quality reds. I was thinking of spending around 200 quid.....any recommendations ?
I know it won't quite stretch to a Petrus but what would you recommend....must be a BIG red !!
Thanks for any help

If you can find a bottle and mot likely just over budget then a 1988 Château Latour, 1er Cru Classé Pauilla would be perfect.
or
for around £150 you can get a Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes
Both excellent French wines.
For £10 you can get the amazing 2005 Syrah, Reserva, Vina Falernia, Elqui Valley from Chile

I'd second the Penfolds Grange for serious wine buffs. If you want to spread the cheer around a few more people, for very nearly the same quality I would happily buy
- Cigare Volant from Bonny Doon (USA)
- Ridge Monte Bello Cab Sauv or Zinfandel (USA)
- God's Hill cab sauv (Australia) if you can find it
- Henschke Cab Sauv (Australia)
