My mother gave me a frozen shoulder of pork yesterday, all wrapped up. Have no idea what to do with it. Please can I have your recipe suggestions, make them simple if possible.

Cheers!

Someone posted a recipe for Pulled Pork done in a slow cooker on here a while back. I followed it, but did a couple of changes and it was fantastic.

Simple you say?

Defrost.

Score skin.

Splash of oil.

Rub in salt.

Place in baking tray.

Heat oven to Max and place pork in.

After 15 minutes turn down to 150 degrees.

Go to pub.

After 8 hours remove from oven. (Really)

Long and slow, no more than 160c. Then roast at the end for 20 mins at 210c.

Personally I think a cheap cut of pork is wasted in the oven since the energy used in cooking it rather outweighs the money saved in buying it.

I'd cook it in the slow cooker for 8 hours (saving any crackling for a quick crisping under the grill).

Buy for the flavour not the cheapness. All the fat melts away after 8 hours and you can carve it with a spoon.

I did this spiced/apple pork a couple of weeks ago:
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3960/slowroaste...

Thought it was fantastic, if you really rub the spices into the cuts in the skin, and pour over the lemon juice and a bit of cider midway through the crackling at the end just tastes superb. Quite hot (lots of chillies) and really flavoursome.

Also the apple sauce with a bit of cinnamon is very simple and very nice - especially with a good bit of proper cider in.

Would recommend it.

Is it electric or battery powered? I saw one earlier in Homebase and it looked a bit weedy. I doubt it'd turn the shoulder of Porky Pig!

I tried this one the other night, sauce in the recipe was too sweet for my taste so more chilli next time for me. Pork was fantastic though!
