Going for the rugby in a couple of weeks and booked into the Ramada hotel (Trafford Road).

The website guest comments almost exclusively slag off the hotel restaurant for being crap food and vastly overpriced.

We are not intending to go far afield for a meal as basically going to watch the game, have a few beers then back to the hotel to have a few more beers.

Not wanting to subsist all day on the, no doubt, ubiquitous burger and chips, we will require at least one decent meal be it either a restaurant or just good pub grub.

So any recommendations that are within (reasonable) walking distance?

If you look out of the window across Trafford Rd you will see a row of restaurants (Chiquita's and some other similar ones).

The curry mile at Rusholme is about 4 miles away, its worth the trip.

Trafford centre is a couple of miles away and it has a huge food hall with all sorts from Ma Potters to Pizza Express, probably worth bobbing along to there

Forgot to Add there is the Lowry Centre (round the corner) which has a Pizza Express and a couple of other not bad resturants outside and a burger king etc inside, and there is the Quayhouse pub on the quays itself.

Good call, the mall at the Lowry is pretty good for food. Across the water from OT.

Lowry is best bet, Trafford Centre and Rusholme are better choices, but I would't want to walk there.

Depending on your requirements, there is a KFC and Harry Ramsden Fish Restaurant (posh chippy, if you like) up the road near White City retail park.

Dont get me wrong, I completely agree. Just with him saying within walking distance, thats the only feasible place.

Isn't there a pub/eaty place on the end of the block where Lou Macari's chippy is?

Going towards Chester House, a walled and gated place that used to be Autosound car audio place years ago.

Thanks for the replies chaps but is it really better to get a taxi to the centre as it sounds like most of the local stuff is 'fast food' type joints? What has the Lowry got?

Not being funny but pizza, burgers, chips and the like are not what me and the missus call proper food, will probably have to suffer something like that at the ground anyway.

Prefer a good steak or roast dinner type stuff.

Definitely get a taxi into town then. Trafford Centre/Lowry are your usual shopping centre food types, Nandos, Pizza Hut etc. etc.

yes Trafford centre has a sort of food hall thing. It's essentially chav city downstairs, with eatieries to match, and a range of much nicer places upstairs. Great Hall has the poshest stuff but probably vastly overpriced - never eaten in there.

I like Yo Sushi in Selfridges, novelty value with the ickle conveyor belt and so on.

I live in Hulme, more or less on the way from Old Trafford to Deansgate, got an absolutely superb local curryhouse we treat ourselves to about once a week. lick - could stick the postcode of your hotel in on just-eat.co.uk and see what that turns up by way of alternatives.

It really is. I actually like the city centre one better but the parking's such a bugger and it's only just getting to the time of year when I can cope with the temperatures outside for more than 5 minutes, and thus find somewhere vaguely sensible to stash several tonnes of Sprinter and walk in.

Be good to meet up sometime and say hello, there's not that many regular posters living nearby - you and 968 are the only ones I can think of.

There are a few Mancs about I think. smile

Will do though. I'll drop you a line when I'm next in town one afternoon/evening but I'll give you more notice than you gave me wink
