My father has a nasty habit of mixing the 2 and drinking them out of pint glass which can taste weird if you not expecting fizzy tomato juice instead of the bloody mary your expecting.

Has anyone had the misfortune to try or even like the stuff??

To make him a complete heathen, the beer he adds it too is Budvar paperbag

The nearest to this I've ever experienced (served, not drank, I hasten to add) was orange juice and Pepsi - aka "The Muddy Puddle". Very refreshing, so I was told.

Lager and tomato juice, on the other hand, is just plain wrong.

Muddy river or whatever it is called on here is the drink of choice after I have played hockey as its refreshing and not too fizzy.

I used to drink orange juice and coke when I was a kid, "ditch water" we called it, very nice as I remember.

Beer and tomato juice is WRONG.

Now give me a Belgian Sour cherry beer... yum

Tomato juice and beer? WTF? In the same glass? yuck

On a separate note, I really want to enjoy a Bloody Mary but have never tried. The tomato juice puts me right off (horrible childhood memories (and smells) of tinned tomatoes).

Apart from holding my nose and trying it, does anyone have any tried and tested recipes for a BM, or variations thereof. Or will I just have to grin and bear it?

and yes I know I'll still need the tomato juice.... and sorry to hijack the thread

Quite liking the idea of a dash of lime and some celery salt, but the tsp of salt has thrown me a bit. I can see me attempting to perfect my recipe this weekend. drunk

Oh, and where's the Vodka? Or do you prefer a virgin?

Try 'V8' instead of tomato juice. Or tequila instead of vodie. Add a splash of dry amontillado to either.

Never thought of using tequila as a substitute, really wanted to keep it as close the original as possible, but I can assure you I won't ever (repeat ever) be letting V8 past my lips again. It's a long story, but god was I...
hurl

Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Adding Dry Amontillado? That's new to me. This weekend is gonna cost me a fortune. I might do a picture thread with the tastings. drunk

Any more suggestions are welcome.

I have had many a bloddy mary made with clamato juice and it is lovely. When I was younger I used to add a few dry roasted peanuts to bloody mary's! That was nice too.

My dad worked in the middle east in the 80's and was based on an American camp and there were a few guys out there that drank tomato juice and beer as a hangover cure.

I have tried it and to be honest if you have a load of tomato juice in it, thats all you can really taste.

The best ever juice for a Bloody Mary is made by Big Toms ( http://www.bigtom.co.uk/ingredients/ ) and is delicious!

But I just can't see having tomato juice and beer vomit
