Without.

Why would you have custard with a jam and cream sponge dusted with icing sugar?

Oddball.

Definitely without.... it's too light for a big old custard - although can't say I've ever tried it!

With.

A la custard is THE best way to enjoy a cake of any description.

The argument came from the obviousness of treacle sponge and custard, and move to discuss how light a sponge would be before custard was not an option.

Never with a Victoria Sponge.

I mean, how - on any level - would that idea work?

And inserting a token French word into the thread title does not make the question any less silly.

<Mrs kiteless kinda likes the idea tho. Bit like a jam steam pud and custard.>

She's on medication tho.

<And cooks all Mr kiteless' food!!>

It's late. Bless her.

I love custard but it doesn't go with Victoria Sponge, it would overpower the flavour of the cream and jam.

Custard is best with tarty desserts like fruit pies/ crumbles lick
