Until last Sunday I'd never have contemplated buying cheap beer, however when on a friends sailing boat he offered me an unheard of Polish beer that he had bought in Tesco. I accepted, not expecting much, but it was lovely, and 5.0 % too.

This evening in Sainsburys I spotted some 500ml bottles of a Polish 5.6% lager called TYSKIE priced at £1.45 a bottle. I bought 4 and I can tell you that it's a lovely, smooth beer and well worth picking up a few bottles when you're next doing a shop.

I think I might be a convert, it seems the Polish know a thing or two about beer and I'll be buying some more TYSKIE.

Thought i'd share my findings with the PH foodies smile

+1 on that one.

The area of Telford by us being as it is, has lots of Polish living nearby and most of the shops sell this. Unexpectedly good stuff.

It is very good. I've been through most of the well-known Polska lagers and it is of a generally high standard.

Try Zwiech (sp) soon too!

Agree - it's very nice. Had it in Poland a few years ago, and started buying it here when the supermarkets started to stock it.

you should also find tyskie and zywiec in your local 'spoons for roughly the same price as the supermarket. tesco's own brand czech lager is pretty damn close in taste and is only 99p a bottle.

Theres one that is something Artois.

Its lager, it gets you pissed but its largely hideous.

That and the polish fags in blue and white packets that are about £1 a pack.

Spent most of summer 2007 consuming polish beer and fags and its not an experience I'd want to repeat in a hurry.

i bought a pack of fags in minsk for the equivalent of 11p. soft pack, filterless, and the roughest tobacco i've ever encountered. used to challenge people to smoke one for a bet, never lost.

Happened to spy some TYSKEI in Tescos tonight and remembered this thread - £1.37 a bottle AND 3 for 2 at the moment!...[/cheapskate] Looking forward to sampling it this weekend smile
