I know, they are foul greasy snacks that are more crap than good, but they are tasty.

Anyway, having a look at the ingredients has left me a little confused, it says that it is 138% pork, which to my mind is impossible, as how can you have something with more than 100% as an ingredient. It also stated that 100 grammes of product contains 138 grammes of pork, again, how can this be possible.

Are there other things out there that just dont make sense when you read the ingerdients?

Are you sure it's not 13.8%?

Its because the meat is dried.

The ingredients are giving a wet unprepared weight.

It's because it's compressed, compressed Pork always contains more Pork than natural Pork, usually about 38% more. It's only about 12% more with Beef, even less with compressed Duck.

Indeed. A quick Google found this reply to someone who actually wrote to the manufacturer to query it:

Hello from Peperami

Dear XXXX, Thank you for your recent query regarding the confusing labelling on Peperami. Under the labelling laws for processed meat products like sausages, we are required to state the amount of raw meat as a percentage of the finished product -including all the other ingredients like spices, salt etc. For raw sausages, the meat percentage will be less than 100% because other ingredients are added during manufacture. However, Peperami is a cured sausage and weight is lost through evaporation of water during manufacture. This means that the weight of the raw meat we put in before cooking and curing is higher than the weight of the finished Peperami that is sold. The meat content is therefore, more than 100%. As an example - a 25g Peperami is made with 27g of raw meat. I hope that this has helped and if you require any further information orassistance, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards, Chantal Barnard

"100% pork + 38% of things that we thought might be pork, or tasted and looked like pork when it arrived at our factory from the pork reject bin" (even their TV advert states this: its a 'bit' of an animal!)

lick Those hot ones sure are tasty though!!

They shold do a corrected figure I think.
Plus, if the meat used originally has water added when they buy it, this will weight the figures futher in their favour.

I think its a legal requirement to show ingredients in their unprepared ratios.

On the advert it says that it's 'a bit of an animal' - I want to know what bit of an animal it is. Looking at the colour of a female baboon's arse, I reckon the Pepperami Firestick is a baboon's cock.

Less than 56%

They're 44% fat by weight.

I guess it's the same with a Quarterpounder... that'll be the raw weight. Once cooked, it's probably about an eighth of a pound.

Although these new BBQ ones are fking foul.

I heard somewhere that pepperamis were invented by accident, someone failed at making pate and they had a few tonnes of the stuff they needed rid of. Could be an urban legend of course...
