Forget that cold plastic stuff you buy in the supermarkets. Has anybody found somewhere which does the real thing?

Anybody living within a sunny Saturday morning drive of Tickhill in South Yorks/Nortb Notts could spend worse time than popping into Eaton's butchers on the High Street (opposite the buttercross) and geting one or more of their pork pies. Absolutely amazing!

Still warm from the oven, with slightly soft, wobbly to runny jelly, buttery firm but soft pastry and meat that looks like meat. Usually all sold out by just after lunchtime, but OMG, as good as it gets IMHO and it has now become the Saturday morning/early afternoon ritual for us if we are out and about (yesterday Mrs B&B made me detour off the M18 down their to get one for lunch and worth the trip).

Melton Mowbray is the home of them. And to be honest I've not found anywhere that has bettered what MM has to offer. Mmm pies!

Mmm that sounds great.

The best place I know of is:

Bridgwater Butchers Ltd
248 Penn Rd
Wolverhampton, WV4 5
01902 337472

Their hand raised pork pies are divine - a rare treat, but so delicious.

The owners of the Butcher also either own or have a stake in a pub not far away called the Barley Mow - they do essentially just different types of steak, with a few pies for variety and they are the best steaks I've had for such a long time.

there is another 'proper' butchers a few door along but I can't vouch for them because I cannot pass Eaton's to get there!

I used to work at HSBC in Tickhill. I will be sure to try one on your recommendation.

On another note, the Taj Cottage does a superb fish curry if that takes your fancy!

Stanforth's, Skipton, North Yorks - worth standing in a line for.

Best eaten warm as soon as you get out of the door.
