I've been roped into playing a fairly casual game of indoor football, starting in one hour. I've just got in from work and haven't eaten for six hours, when I had a big ol' Subway.
Should I eat now and play on a full stomach, or eat afterwards and risk fainting in the penalty box? I know nothing of these things.
Thanks in advance, PH Nutri-boffins.

I play football every week after work 7pm and eat when I get home afterwards. Usually have lunch at 12-1. Never an issue.

Hmm six hours is a long time to go without food, by now you should be needing a UN air drop of rice.

I used to play after work every week - kick off between 1800 and 21:00. 18:00 would be football, then beer. 21:00 would be beer, and then football. Obviously more beer for later games.

We found (as a team) that we played the best after 2 to 3 pints of Stella. Next best was with no alcohol. Worst was with more than 3 pints of Stella.

Hope that helps........

I do this.

It's surprisingly physical if you play at a reasonable standard.....and I get kicked in the face lots.

Hence the head that looks like it's been malleted.

Two large naans. One buttered, one peshwari.

You'll be fine.

Are you nuts? If you dont have a keema naan, you wont play at more than 80%. Keema makes all the difference dontyaknow.

Thanks nutritionists. After carefully considering your advice I went with not eating anything.
I'd not played for 15 years, and for the first 10 minutes I was scintillating, scoring two goals. Then I went into physical meltdown, got a ball in the face and bled for 10 minutes. Now feel like I ran a marathon.

But cheers, anyway.

It can't be surprising you every match, can it? After the first one I would have thought you knew.
