What's your favourite? How do you cook it? Any good recipes?

My favoutrite is the stuff from "Charley Barley" in Stornoway. Two butchers in Aberdeen sell it and between them they sell about 50 a week!

Had some on Saturday morning: Scrambled egg (with Normandy butter, a little double cream and lots of white pepper), home-smoked river salmon and stornoway black pudding. Beautiful.

I normally just fry it, either in butter or dripping for that extra meaty flavour.

Damn, I'm hungry now frown

Recently I watched Jamie Oliver's TV program. He made Full-English breakfast pizza! It seems easy, he put black pudding (cut by hand), british sausages(cut by hand), tomato and mushroom, bacon on the pizza doh (put some olive oil)!! and half baked then add eggs. (for making them semi-cooked fried egg)

I love black pudding but little bit worry for the fat spin

Best I've had was from the butchers in Portree on Skye. The pudding must have been a good 4 inches in diameter.
Down here in sunny Leeds I usually get my BP from the deli counter - Asda's is good but Morisons is better.
Consume by frying two rashers of Ayrshire middle bacon in a pan, then cooking a few rounds of BP in the bacon fat and put the lot in a warm buttered croissant. Mmmmmmmmm. Serve with a large mug of tea and the Sunday papers.

A big fan of Black pudding here, amazed at the variation, I used to get one in Aberdeen that seemed to be heavilly infused with cloves, but can't remember who's it was.

Slightly off topic what's the thoughts on white pudding?
Lefty, you're reasonably local to me, Ritchies of Altbea is worth trying if you find it (but grilled not fried)

Aultbea?

yes

Had it in Fennel (Inverurie) recently. Black Pudding fritters with spiced apple chutney and a balsamic reduction. Superb!

I would agree that decent black pudding shouldn't be mucked around with much.

If you do have some supermarket fare that you need to get rid of, try a slice of (cooked) back pudding, topped with a slice of decent lancashire cheese, wrapped in some mash to form a potato cake. Fry until golden brown.

MMMMmmmmm.

Love it with scallops, but not a fan as part of a Full English for some reason. Go figure!

I get mine from Borough Market, normally, though I am hard pressed to remember which supplier. "I'll be back!"

Bury market. The only place to buy it.

simply boiled, served with english mustard and crusty bread.

Must be a "fatty" one as well( they sell lean, medium and fatty )

Thorfinn Craigie,
Hall o' Yenstay,
Tankerness,
Orkney
You'll know where I'm coming from Lefty.
Thorfinns black pudding has little spice, lots of onion and cereal.
A very 'real' taste, nothing plasticky.

Favourites are the classic with scallops and orange sauce but even better is in a tower with a fillet steak (Thorfinns of course) steak mushroom and red onion marmalade. the sweetness of the marmalade and the bp go together really well

Macleod and Macleod of Stornoway is the only one I'll eat. Always forget how bad anything else is until I order a full breakfast and get served some. Luckily plenty of places here in Glasgow sell or use it.
