Costco Purchases

Wasn't much to show for it apart from bottles and cans and meat
That'll do it... What the hell else did you go for? Oddly over here in the US, their diamonds appraise for much higher than they cost. A friend purchased an engagement ring from there, which was politely declined (haha), and he only lost about $45 when selling it to a high street jeweller..
One thing you do have to watch with Costco is that not everything is a bargain. The trick is to only buy the loss-leaders and genuine bargains and steer clear of the claw-back stuff.
Wine is not automatically cheaper, for example. Often the supermarkets can match the price, especially when running Special Offers.
I've also found 'tech to be massively over-priced. TVs and Laptops are often a model behind yet priced at or just below the internet selling rate of the equivalent current model. You need to be *very* clued up to get a bargain in that dept.
Two ongoing bargains for petrolheads are car batteries (Bosch Asia Silver at £60-odd rather than the usual £90-odd) and Mobil 1 engine oil.
