As everyone seems to go on about how fantasic it is, I think we're going to head down to the curry mile on our next trip to Manchester.

Does anyone have a specific recommendations for places down there?

its hard to find a bad one, but its telling to see which ones are still operating after a few years with the same name/owner.

i'd recommend:

shaandaar

lal quila [personal fave from student days, featured on the bbc curry mile docu]

shere khan [maker of the sauces you get in the supermarket]

royal naz [curry chef of the year 6yrs running]

the above has a few reviews.

I would put an extra thumbs up Royal Naz and Shaandar and I have never been let down at the Shere Kahn and the last time I was there, finding it impossible to settle on a main and incurring the wrath of the rest of my party the waiter just asked the kind of flavours I liked and said thanks, the resulting dish was superb!

On the night you go just have a walk up and down and the rule of thumb tends to be if it's busy it's good!

Enjoy

Reminds me of student days. When it was busy on a Friday night, some would send waiters out with plates of poppadoms to make sure you stayed around until they had space to seat you.

The last time I went was a couple of years after being a student when I was living in the South, had a fabulous meal for two with drinks for the price of a single meal with no drinks darn sarf.

The bar is high due to the competition, I never had a bad meal on the mile.

Interesting this, because I always though that Brick Lane was London's equivalent, but with a handful of excptions you would be hard pushed to find a meal of quality there. Cheap tho.
