Our fan oven packed up last night and it's replacement wont' be here until Friday. The grill is next to useless so that leaves us with just the hob.

I dont really want to have a fry up or a stir-fry every night this week, so has anyone got some ideas on some alternatives?

They'll need to be things that can be prepared and cooked in less than 40 minutes when we get in from work.

Spag bol and griddle'd fish are all I can think of so far.

Pasta and sauces are often a two-pan hob-based meal. Carbonara a favourite.
You can do casseroles/cassoulet on the hob.
Omelettes, scambled eggs.

Or, if the summer heat is getting to you (and you are feeling a bit metrosexual!) have a salad!

Problem solved smile
If you have to cook, BBQ. Or buy a slow cooker & chuck things in before going to work & have a hot meal waiting when you get home.

most things can be made on the hob. trust me on this - when i moved into my house i spent the first 18mths preparing every meal on a camping burner. you just need to think sideways.

having said that, never take the advice of a man who has made pasta in a kettle.

a sensible answer - steamed fish. personal fave being salmon with lemongrass/fish sauce/ginger/lime.

spend time perfecting your curries/thai.

Chilli:

500g mince
2 onions
Schwarz chilli mix (have always used this rather than buying the individual jars!)
1 can chopped tomatoes
1 can kidney beans

Fry the mince and onions (you can add chopped fresh chilli's if your OH will let you)
Drain excess fat
Mix the spices with water, pour along with toms and kidney beans into the mince (and another couple of chilli's)
Leave to simmer for 20mins whilst concentrating on cooking some rice.

I could quite easily live off chilli, but sadly I have to make do with it once per week ;-(

My daft flat mate nearly killed us all 'grilling' burgers in the toaster.
