Anyone know if you can eat the rind off this cheese.
Purchased earlier today from the Sainsbury's reduced bin for 50p.
smells really strong. Not quite sure what to do with it.
except to eat it with crackers.

Eat it all.

The cheese isn't as strong as it smells and the rind is washed in brandy.

I usually go for a bit of baguette and some cornichons to accompany.

And a good red of course.

Does seem to be the PH cheese of choice, this Epoisses stuff.

Must try it.

Sounds lovely. We do have some in the fridge, but we had bread and cheese earlier in the week and I've sort of promised myself a take-away tonight. Hmmm.

It also makes great cheese on toast if it's gone a bit hard. I find it does tend to dry out in the fridge and there's nowhere else to store it since I don't have a wine cabinet in my current house.

I thought Epoisse was beer-washed not brandy. It's the 3rd stinkiest cheese in the world, but I suspect the supermarket varieties are not nearly as bad as the one i tried a while back... You wouldn't want to eat the rind, it smelt like concentrated ashtray. The cheese was OK, but the smell was overpowering and more than one of my mates gagged when trying a bit!

I didn't think you were meant to store decent cheese in the fridge - I thought it was too cold and damp... in the boot of your car wrapped in cheese cloth is what Delia recommends!

I keep my cheese on a slate, covered by a tea towel in the pantry.

Well, I've had a cheese week!
Had Epoisses earlier in the week, then stinking bishop (amongst others) on Saturday and Vacherin (amongst others) on Sunday.

Lord knows what my insides must be like now. biggrin

Where did you get Vacherin from? I thought vacherin 'season' was October through to end of March?

(it's also one of my fave cheeses).

Hmmm, I wonder if any vacherin get's frozen or preserved somehow then? Or maybe I've been misled re. the 'season' for them./shrug/

Usually get most of my cheese from La Fromagerie off Marylebone High St.
