Hotel Du Vin is good, Brasserie Blanc is probably worth a look too. I'd also recommend Chesil Rectory down at the bottom of town, really small and intimate but with fantastic food. [shamelessplug]If you travel a bit further afield then you could try www.berties.com and even stay there![/shamelessplug]

hehe

yes even once you've got past the shock that those are prices not telephone numbers after each dish on the menu.

I have fond memories of the Cellar Peking on Jewry Street... best Chinese food I've ever had. Mind you, that was back in 1989...

As already suggested the Hotel Du VIn is very nice, we just got back from a rather nice weekend there. They have an offer at the moment for £10 a room on Sunday night if you spend £75 in the bistro. Worth asking about that - you could get an extra night in!

I like the black rat. The tables outside in sort of hut things are rather nice on an evening.

Oh yeah, forgot the Black Rat, comes very highly recommended by all accounts. Definately worth a look. As for Chesil Rectory, under new managment now so not as stuffy and prices are very reasonable. They were even doing an 'early supper' fixed price menu, 2 x courses for £14 or something.
Its got to be either -

Black Rat
Hotel Du Vin
Chesil Rectory

Or Berties...

Been a while since I was down that way, but is the Italian Tapas place still there?

Nah, it's been replaced by a Spanish pizza joint.
