Our IT team at work are always helping me with with my domestic PC, laptops, router and so on but will not accept money for their services. I want to say thank you in some form so asked the IT Manager who suggested they all quite like a dram of whisky (scotch) but would not elaborate further. So, can anyone advise of a good scotch whisky I can get them, thinking a couple of bottles initially?

Cheers

RM

ETA - I am thick and meant to put this in food, drink and restaurants. Can one of the mods please move this one. Thanks RM

How much do you want to spend? How much do they actually know about/like whisky?

If you dont want to spend too much and they dont actually know much about the stuff then just buy a bottle of Laph. and a bottle GlenM.

£25-30 per bottle range is pretty safe IMO, unless they're real anoraks. I like Balvennie double wood, but I tried Laphroaig that was mentioned above in a bar once and it was very nice.

Aberlour 10 year old at about £18-£20 or a Glenfiddich (£20+) will be to most tastes.

Talisker has been mentioned by the IT team previously. So something around that I guess. Thanks for the suggestions thus far.

if they like Talisker, get an aardbeg.

however, they might not all like Talisker/Aardbeg/Laphroig's level of peatiness so it might be worth getting something from Speyside (Balvenie etc) that tends to be less divisive...

Talisker's usually pretty safe as it's not as phenolic as your typical Islay dram.

Having said that, if I didn't know a persons palate, I'd stick to Highland (Dalwhinnie is very safe) or a Speysider like Balvenie Founders Reserve or Glenfiddich Toasted oak (both "premium" young-ish malts).

Or Highland Park 12 year-old is a dram I've never heard anybody claim they dislike!

Aberlour was going to be my shout if they actually knew what they were talking about. But Aberlour 100 smile

You can spend more if you like, but Aberlour is nice and Laphroaig is my drink of choice. Both relatively reasonably priced.

Not sure I'd buy any Islay malt for somebody if I didn't know what kind of whisky they liked... So many whisker drinkers just plain don't like the peat. laugh

Agreed - stick to the easy Speysides.

It's OK IMHO, I'd agree that there's not much to dislike but not all that much to love either!

How about Old Pultney? for a easy drinking whisky. I was quite impressed with my other halves purchase of bruichladdich rocks for recently.
