I'm sure this will ultimately get moved to "food and drink", but I thought the Lounge might be more appropriate for this one.

According to Harden's London Restaurant guide the Oxo Tower is a throughly disappointing experience! I read it in the Telegraph yesterday and it made be chuckle out loud as I immediately thought of all you lot!

So lads, now you have proof, the ladies will not be impressed if you take them up the Oxo Tower!!!!

I went past the OXO Tower last night on a work organised boat party and nearly wet myself laughing when we went past without explanation to anyone else.

I think they now think I'm odd.

Nothing will ever beat the 'fake' Oxo Tower review thread on a restaurant review website. I beleive it was on Top Table, and was perpetuated by hundreds who got the joke and expanded on it, before the webhosts finally 'clicked' and took it down.

EDIT - It was www.restaurant-guide.com, the original has long since gone, but this article has excerpts from it.

EDIT (again) - the Restaurant Guide Oxo Tower thread still has a few gems in it which have slipped through the censors net...

Review by Andy Hill (21 March 2006)
My fiancée wanted me to take her to the Oxo Tower, she has been fascinated by it for many years. She thought that it may be a little intimidating, but like most of the reviews she really did love it. She agrees that it is breath taking and would recommend it to anyone. First Class!

I popped into the OXO Tower last week, (more by accident than intent to be honest) while I was down that way. My wife and I were really surprised, we hadn't expected to enjoy it so much and had a really good night. Thanks to Andy for introducing me to it, and to all the staff, we are looking forward to many more visits.

I love it up the OXO Tower! The only problem is having to pay the extra for it, but in my opinion it is well worth it.

Following a recent book launch, I was taken up the Oxo Tower by my friend Jonathan. It was a first for me, but I knew I was in safe hands. It wasn't long before we found an excellent position where I could see everything. Some of those sights will remain with me forever. It is definitely a place I would like to take all my friends, and a must for anyone visiting London. Thank you.

Review by Guy Byeseye (22 March 2004)
For the first time just last week, we tried the Oxo Tower for a change and must say it’s not as bad as I was lead to believe! It must be said however, we did leave it late in the day & it was quite tight up there, but having managed to sit down and unwind with a stiff drink, I managed to relax & there is no better form of relaxation than hanging out the back & taking in those breath taking views! For all of those who have not tried it, please do give it a go, its breath taking!

I found the entrance a bit tight and had to leave my bags outside.

A fresh-faced young graduate at work announced that she had a date that evening, and that the chap in question was 'taking her up the Oxo Tower'.

Of course everyone else fell about laughing - she was absolutely mortified when we told her what it meant. So we laughed some more.

Do you people know that the OXO thing is a banning offence on PH now? Good thing the mods don't spend much time in here.

I remember reading that on a works Blackberry in a pub.

I stopped off on the way home for a cheeky pint, and shortly after I was creasing up with tears rolling down my face. I suspect adjacent tables didn't know whether to laugh with me or console me!

Getting back to the actual starting point of this thread, I am somewhat bemused!

I've never eaten in the restaurant up there, but I've been to the brasserie lots of times. I've never once had even a single dish that wasn't excellent, and it's remarkably good value.

I have always wondered why anyone ever bothered with the more expensive restaurant, given how good the cheaper brasserie is right next to it. Maybe I was right to wonder?
