Recommend me a pub for Sunday lunch in Marlborough?

Does it have to be in Marlborough?
The Sun is OK if it has to be in the town, but far better are some of the the pubs in the villages surrounding.
The Kings Arms in All Cannings is excellent (but book in advance) and the beer is top notch.
As is the Cross Keys in Great Bedwyn.
If you want to go where the racing crowd go from Lambourn, The Pheasant has excellent food but it does get busy with regulars, so another one you should book.
I Lived in the area for 10 years up to this january, and they're the best at the moment I'd say for decent pub style food and drink, The Pheasant can work out a bit pricey, the Cross Keys is the budget choice (and used to be my local, as well as Gillian Anderson and Pete Doherty's).

I went went it first opened and it was awful. To be fair, they had taken over the staff and menu of the previous people, who used to be good but had grown boring and complacent, so I'm glad to hear it's better now. The Red Lion at Axford used to be really nice, as you're coming down the hill into M'bro from J15, before the roundabout, take a left at the green/square. Follow that road for a couple of miles and it's on the right.
Excellent new chef doing some grub in a pub in Pewsey, which is about 10-15 mins from Marlborough - The Coopers Arms - his bit of it is called Balaam's. You definitely won't be disappointed.
Also the royal oak in Bishopstone is another favourite haunt of mine, lovely food, great atmosphere. about 20 mins from Marlborough though.

Just to wrap this up in case it crops up again in the future. A combination of not booking anything until yesterday and wanting to be pretty close to Marlborough so that my mother had a fighting chance of getting there without getting horrifically lost (think Reading to Chippenham via Chepstow and Cheltenham), we had lunch today at The Red Lion Inn at Axford - about 5 minutes from Marlborough high street.

Not really sure what to report. It was... odd. It seems to be family-run, with what I assumed to be 3 generations present. Dad does the bar, Mum does a bit of waiting, son does front-of-house, and Grandma seems to sit by the fire with the cat and the Independent on Sunday. It's quite formal, crisp linen and nice glassware. Certainly not modern, though. Our kids could easily get themselves barred from Slough McDonalds, but they were looked after very nicely, mini-Roasts with their beef pre-cut into small pieces.
Food was excellent, plenty of it, well cooked.
Just a bit... odd. Can't really put my finger on it!
